MKP were employed by Balfour Beatty to re-engineer the mechanical and electrical services associated with Prince Consort Village, a new hall of residence for the Royal College of Music.
The project was unusual in that it required high quality, acoustically treated bedrooms and 24 hour practice rooms for the students.
The new accommodation comprises 410 studio apartments, en-suite, and standard rooms, and includes an open-plan, central amenity space, an informal performance space, teaching kitchens and a gymnasium.
The project is predominately heated via electric heaters which are offset by a large roof mounted array of PV cells. MKP were employed to tackle this change in heating strategy from the original concept and to ensure that the acoustic treatment could be coordinated within the extremely tight constraints of the agreed structure.
